Cherry Blossom Art

                        Cherry blossom art

Last week on Friday we did something called cherry blossom art. Everyone in room 10 had fun exploring with paint playing with straws and more. Here are the steps we had to do to achieve our painting.

The things you will need are

  • A paint brush
  • Watercolor paint
  • A3 paper
  • Straws
  • Acrylic paint
  • And napkins for clean up
  • Pipette or dropper
  • Newspaper
  • Container

                                     Method

1.  First put Newspaper all over the table to avoid getting paint on them

2. Fill a container with water

3. Paint your piece of A3 with blue and green paint then let it dry

4. Before you made your tree on the background that you let dry, you had to practice on a little brown paper and your teacher would come around with black ink or watery paint.  Using a pipette to drop the black paint onto your paper with the pipette. Next you had to use straws and blow on the paint to get your desired tree look.

5. Once you were happy with your draft someone would come around dropping black paint on your background that should now be dry while you had a clean straw you had to do blow air onto your painting. Blow air onto the background until you are happy.

6. Now that your tree and background is all dry a teacher will put paint in a plastic bowl and using a spoon mix the colors red and white to make a light pink.

7. Dip your finger into the wet paint and blob it all over your tree branches until you are happy

8. Let everything dry and you're done.

Earthquake Shakes New Zealand!

Today for our homework in room 10 we had to pretend we were a digital newspaper reporter. Here is my digital newspaper report.

Earthquake Shakes New Zealand

Hello this is an important message for all around New Zealand. Early this morning around 12.02am a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck north of christchurch, near hanmer springs. A dozen aftershocks were spread across the country including two 6.2 quakes near Kaikoura. Tsunami sirens were going off  in areas around New Zealand. This includes all of the East coast Of New Zealand, both in the north islands and the south. A 2m tsunami hit Kaikoura.  Please be safe in case of an earthquake, by standing under doorways or under tables. Keep away from water, coastlines in case of a tsunami and stay on high ground. Have a radio handy to keep up with news or instructions on what to do.

Danger danger!

Once upon a time there was a girl named Northwood she is a 7 year old girl with blue eyes and chestnut coloured hair.  Her wish is to become a gymnast millionaire with  little dog  Applepie.  Apple Pie is a mixed breed. He is a German Shepard and a Labrador mix They went to  see there very well known friends the elves from the Enchanted forest. But before they went to see any of their friends the elf guard had to scan them to make sure they weren't pirates in disguise.”Hello Northwood and Apple pie!”, shouted the elves. “What brings you here?”  asked Fluffy dve. “Oh nothing we were just ah, wait what's that?” Beep beep beep beep,” oh no the sirens  quick catch those pesky pirates before they find the gold rush!” said the guard. “ Ha good luck trying to catch us you short no good elves” said one of the pirates as they carry out the gold. “Waaaa waaaa waaaa” , “who's that” said the guard. “Oh that will have to be me” said the king of elves, “ don't worry one bit me and Applepie will get back your treasure”. So Northwood and Applepie set off to the next destination, the candy kingdom. Applepie loved going to the candy kingdom to see his best friend rose. Northwood asked one of the banana guards to let them in to see princess bubblegum. “ Howdy little lady what brings you here today” said one of the banana guards. “ We would like to see the princess to see if she has seen two very bad people”. Northwood always had to break down the words for the banana guards because they weren't the best guards to ever trust. “ Okay madam you ma” beep beep beep beep beep, “ the candy gumball people are letting off the sirens” said one banana guard,” hey there they are go get them Applepie” said Northwood but he was too busy eating the ground. “Get back here ugly pirates!” shouted the princess. “ Ahh darn you pirates” said  the princess even louder than before. “ Hahahahahaha you'll never catch us even if you tried” said one of the pirates as they laugh into the candy forest. “ I'm so sorry princess” said Northwood while princess bubblegum's face went red every time she looked at her. “ Don't worry princess me and my trusty dog will get your candy money back lickedy split” said Northwood as they set off to the last place. Pirates cove. When Applepie and Northwood were just about to leave princess bubblegum ran over to them and said that she was going with them no matter what they say. They were all getting hungry and tired so they stopped to rest in a old candy cabin in the woods. They all had a snack and a little rest until they all woke up to something banging on the door. Princess bubblegum  went   to who I was “HELP” screamed princess bubblegum Northwood got up a dashed to the door but before she got there the princess was gone.

Were the pirates put into the candy jail or will they still be on the loose. I guess will never know until next  chapter of Northwoods catastrophe life begins.

The amazing Botanical Gardens!

It was a beautiful day the sun was shining the birds were chirping and the skies were blue just the kind of day we all needed when we went to the Botanical gardens on Thursday the 13 of October. The whole School went to the Botanical gardens in Manurewa for the whole morning,we went by bus to get there. Once we got to our destination we got split up into two groups but we all still had to stick together as a class, I was with Mrs Hoeberigs. In my group it was Tupouseini, Pupuke, Leaaepeni ,Leilani, Katrina, Saluselo, Tyron and Henry. We got to see different types of flowers, plants, trees, and animals. While we were walking around I could hear loads of movement throughout the walking we all did. I heard bees buzzing around, flies, water raging through the woods, wind, ducks , cicadas. I heard loads of things but mostly wind. I could smell rotting wood and really bad smelling soil it was to much to explain. I was so excited because I got to see other parts of the gardens and learn more about how individual plants grow. My  favorite part of going there was the rose garden because we had the opportunity to smell the flowers they all slightly smelt the same but the small purple one smelt like raro. I also liked the rose garden because it had different types of flowers. Now for my favorite plant and why? My favorite plant was the magnolia flower because everywhere you looked there were different colored magnolias, they were really beautiful. I had lots of different sculpture I loved but I loved one that had spades (shovels) piled on top of each other because we could make different things out of it like, a pinecone, porcupine, spikes heaps of things. It was awesome fun at the Botanical gardens and I really want to go all over again. picmonkey collage

Dear Nicky and Sigred

Thank you very much for paying for our buses to go to the Botanic Gardens last week.  I enjoyed going to the rose garden because there are different types of flowers to smell and look at.  I learnt facts I had never come across like a cactus can live long without water.

Thank you again.

Yours truly

Meeting the Silver Ferns!

Yesterday Mr Reid, Leanah, Katrina, Kuini, Mary, Bella, Meana, Lupe and I  went to Saint Kents to see four Silver Ferns. We saw Maria Tutaia, Catherine Tuivaiti, Grace Rasmussen and Leana de Bruin. We were all excited to see them.

When we got there, there was over 30 Schools to see them. They taught us some of their favourite netball drills and tricks. First we went to the netball courts and we had some people from St Kents that helped us warm up for a few minutes. The St Kents girls names were Tori and Mahina. We warmed up by doing squats and lunges. Then we finally  got to see the Silver Ferns. Just before we got to meet them we had to do a chant but that's another story.

We started with Leana de Bruin and she taught us how to intercept. Then we saw Catherine Tuivaiti. St Kents provided us with lunch so we didn't have to bring lunch. I had a chicken and mayo bun and some fruit. Then we had some pictures taken with them and we asked them some questions.

Finally we had to say our last goodbyes and get some signatures. That was the end of the adventure with the Silver Ferns.

I love Vector!

22.6.16

This morning we went to Vector Arena with Mrs Vickers and a group of students. We went by bus to Vector Arena. Once we got there, there was three girls and two boys waiting for us to come in. When we got inside we were given a sheet of paper and a blue pen. On the sheet were questions that we had to answer. First we went into the room that the Breakers played basketball in. After that we went in the dressing room that Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus got dressed up in. Next we went upstairs to the bar that had the name Heineken that welcomed you. They had made some lights out of old bottles. The next room we went in was the Pacific Tuning Room. It was cool in there because we got to see the dragons Stormfly and Toothless. Me and Leilani got a prize for getting all the answers right. She got a teddy bear and I got a WWE booklet. I had a great time at Vector and one day I will like to return and see another show.

Matariki!

Matariki only happens when you can see seven bright stars in the sky and it is also known as the Maori new year. You can see Matariki in the beginning of June in the eastern sky.  A thin bit of the  new moon appears in the north. That is how you know Matariki has begun. Matariki is also known as Pleiades and there is even a car brand, Subaru, that has six stars but it was based off the seven sisters. Subaru is what people in Japan call the Matariki stars. People in New Zealand celebrate Matariki in different ways. Some people plant native trees or do the haka.Image result for matariki

My first blog post!

IMG_20160209_123043.jpg

Kia ora, my name is Shakaia. I am 10 years old and this is my first writing  for my blog because I was not at Ruapotaka all of last year. I am Maori and my favourite activity is netball and playing with my family and friends. One day I would like to play netball with the Silver Ferns.

My favourite thing to do at the weekend is going to my Dad’s and playing with my little sisters. But above all the thing I love to do is coming to school and learning new things.
